I'm feeling gratitudinous today for words and language! Words that apply, such as : satori, sesquipedalianism, polychromatic, tendentiousness, and hegira. Words of greeting in different languages: bawoni, annyeonghaseyo, konnichiwa, ciao, bon jour, alo, and more! I do not know the root of my affinity - predilection - delight - attraction to languages, words, and polyglot ability, but there it is!
Recently, I made a new friend from Nigeria, who taught me how to offer greeting in one of the Nigerian dialects (of which there are hundreds); Yoruban. The term is "Bawoni". He was quite surprised I could pronounce it with such ease.
Each day inbox receives A Word Of The Day, and I am intrigued by not only its meaning, but I delight in the root word and derivation! As difficult as it may be (or not, for me!) to learn new languages, I would love to travel the world and learn as many as possible. My current goal is to eventually be able to read a book in 한국을 (Korean)! I will devote my future travels to speaking the languages of my resident country, (even though I have always done this in the past, but I would like to be more dedicated). I did my best to speak the native language of my host countries, when I visited Portugal, Panama, Spain, Italy, Korea, and the Caribbean. It is the polite and proper action to take when you are a guest in another country! The challenge comes in acculterating to the new country, along with absorbing the vocabulary and nuances of elocution, particular to each.
Anyway, I love language, I love words, I love books, and I am grateful for these passions of mine!
PS, and I have fun creating my own words as well, such as "gratitudinous". So, you could say I am a neologist, in that I create new words. FYI: neologism comes from Greek and Latin, "new" and "word". Yes, neologism is a "real' word, not a Gina-creation! Now I want to make a word out of simalcrum that has a likeness to its own meaning, thus becoming a self-fulfilling definition, because it would bear the representation of it's own definition! Simalcrum=likeness, representation. Simulacritudinous?
Ya'll have a superkalifragilistically wonderfulacious day!
