It's been a while since I have luxuriated in the act and art and patience of preparing a truly enjoyable meal for myself; however, it is becoming a habit I can enjoy once again. Feeling the grip of my sharp and well-known Henckels in hand as I slice, chop, and mince. Picking a new flavor profile for a dish, on a whim, each day unique. Standing over a simmering pot, patiently waiting. Gazing into the sunshine through the panes, singing to myself, as I wash dishes. Surprising myself that I enjoy even this! A task I used to detest.
Therefore, I am grateful for this time, this luxury, to have an abundance of food and time in which to prepare it. To sit at a table set mise en place, colorful, healthful, and tasteful. To have time for closed eyes; several slow, deep breaths; and to feel gratitude for the meals I prepare, as an enjoyment, as a trifle, as a choice. Thank you.
