Today I am really grateful for lessons I am learning in Golden Shield Qi Gong: not only applicable to the practice, but usable in life! Different energies are flowing in me: physical, emotional, psychic. Managing, containing, allowing these energies is completely new to me. My teacher gave me two different exercises to do at home to help manage the emotional energy that was manifesting in uncontrollable outburst of emotion (crying, mainly), and restlessness after evening practice that prevented me from falling asleep at a decent hour! The past few nights I have been doing these, I sleep so deeply, after falling asleep easily as well! I also received great advice from the other students in regard to containing and disconnecting my energy from something, so it doesn't stay with me. Now I have a visual to use, as well as verbal cues to draw my energy back from an action/thought and disconnect from it. It's a similar result to being fully present or meditating; I can let go of past and future worries, release thoughts about work or studies, and draw my nerdy back into myself that I was using for any action or emotion. It's so amazing and makes such a difference, even in daily life! So when I've been absorbed in work all day, I can pull my energy back in from the tasks, and completely disconnect with a visualization and verbal cue, thus moving on to something else and letting that work go. In other words, I can let go of stress or worry or thinking about "all I have to do", etc.! I am so grateful to learn these techniques. I love that what I'm learning as a physical and energetic (chi) practice in class transmits directly to daily life! That's Gung Fu! Allowing energy (emotion, etc.), utilizing it (flow with it), then releasing it (no stagnation or stuck-ness). I love learning! Plus, the practice in class makes me feel really good the next day!
Although this is not a photo of Qi Gong, the system philosophies are similar in their revolution around Tao and energy.
