On the wonderful side, I’m sitting in a nice “bistro” (although that term doesn’t seem to fit here in China). Looks more like a fancy coffee shop with its pretty white booths and shiny bottles lined up along the wall. But bistro food, yes. The bread looks like it rivals that in Paris (or Whole Foods, LOL), although some of it has ingredients uncommon to the US, such as durian. The menu are includes gourmet pizzas, sandwhiches, teas, coffee, cakes, pasta and (really weird) burgers. The couple across from me is sharing half a lobster (how come lobster is not on my menu???) and a pizza. They offer plastic gloves for pizza eating, so your hands don’t get all stinky and greasy. Now I LOVE that!!!! At first I thought they gave me the English-version menu... but then I re-read it, and oh yes, there is lobster on my menu, too, LOL.

Well, THE BIG CITY has shown it’s ugly side. If you don’t leave school by 445, you are effed for getting home on Dudu or bus without suffering or long, long lines of traffic. I can’t use bike rental service til I have my resident #, which is 3 more weeks (so why, exactly, did I go there today???). I’m not ready to walk bc of well... lots of reasons blahblahblah.
Sooooo.... I didn’t order a Dudu til nearly 5 and long story short, it took over an hour to get picked up, I cancelled my massage, got really pissed off, and learned a lesson. It’s Dudu because they both went the wrong direction and long way for some reason, and so took so long to arrive. My lesson is to order a Dudu before 445 (esp on Friday!). My other lesson is I’m buying a damn bike or finding another bike service. I could be riding to/from school each day for 1y (.15 cents per ride ) instead of bus or Dudu (9y per ride).
I finally get home... quick freshen up to go out for dinner... and I check my bank account, which is nearly empty...OMG WTF!!! I brought a few grand over and can NOT believe I have spent nearly ALL of it in a place where everything is 1/10-1/4 of what it costs in the US... dinner cost 1.50US$, breakfast is 1.24US$, and Dudu is 1.40...then again, I am settling in, buying a lot of stuff for home... but good grief... no way. But I haven’t been able to check my bank account either because I can’t work the app... in Mandarin... and apparently it won’t let “foreigners” use the app or something... IDK!!! Argh. Yes, some extra spending on taobao... but...IDK, it doesn’t make sense so I’ll figure that out.
OK so there HAVE BEEN a few struggles in China... yeah, of course! I’d be lying to declare otherwise. BUT, the good still outweighs any negatives I have experienced...like the following, for instance:
But let us end on a funny note:
As I mentioned, I’m sitting in a bistro, enjoying pizza, a Pellegrino, and vino. I am enjoying people-watching at my window table. Some dude walks by and our eyes meet. You cannot believe...I almost choked and splurted out my wine... he totally like raised both his eyebrows at me in a flirty fashion Like he was from the 70s or something... LMAO after he passed by. I mean, soooo freakin hilar!!!!
By the way, dinner cost 124y which is about $19. That includes 2 glasses vino, one huge thin-crust pizz (enough for two meals at least), and a small pellegrino!
