This article could be titled “Surprising, sunny skies in Lijiang” or “Surprising! Sunny skies in Lijiang!”. Either way, “surprising” is the a key feature of our first day in the “Old Town” of Lijiang. You know you are living in a frequently overcast, hazy city when you keep looking up at the sky in wonder at the blue clearness, marveling at white clouds scudding by and clear air. It’s amazing how I have taken clean air and sunny skies for granted. Unfortunately, I am now used to the grey skies of Chengdu and my pale skin from lack of sunshine.
Yesterday, we arrived in Lijiang and beyond being amazed at the blue skies, my friend and I marveled at the antiquity of the buildings in the Ancient Town of Lijiang. I could not get over the beauty of this preserved portion of this large city. After seeing photos similar to this in NG and travel magazines, seeing it with my own eyes; this architecture still seems unreal. Have I walked into a NG magazine?
